H1N1 Flu Vaccine Clinics

In an effort to maintain our commitment to the health of our community, Hancock Regional Hospital will hold public H1N1 flu vaccine clinicsand will run as long as vaccines are available.This initiative remains critical in our efforts to minimize the impact and spread of the 2009 H1N1 flu.

Hancock Regional Hospital will offer the H1N1 flu vaccine free of charge.

This public H1N1 flu vaccine clinic will be held at the Hancock Wellness Center located at 888 West New Road in Greenfield, Indiana.

Clinic days/hours:

Wednesday, 12/2/09 from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. 
 
Hancock Regional Hospital will require the following prior to administering the H1N1 flu vaccine:
 
· Valid photo Identification
· Proof of guardianship for all unemancipated minors
 
Hancock Regional Hospital will follow recommendations established by the Centers for Disease Control as well as the Hancock County Health Department in determining appropriateness of vaccine administration. These guidelines will be strictly enforced. Hancock Regional Hospital does not have the authority to waive these administration guidelines.

The live attenuated intranasal vaccine (LAIV) is sprayed into the nose. LAIV is approved for people from 2 through 49 years of age who are not pregnant and do not have certain health conditions.

Individuals will be eligible for a LAIV if and only if they fall within one of the following criteria:

  • Healthy children 2 years old up to school age. (School age children will receive their vaccine in school by the Hancock Co. Health Dept.)
  • Healthy individuals 18 - 24 years of age
  • Persons aged 25 through 49 years who are healthy and
    • Live with or care for infants younger than 6 months of age, or
    • Are health care or emergency medical personnel

As more vaccine becomes available, other healthy 25 through 49 year olds will be offered the vaccine.

You should not get 2009 H1N1if you have a severe (life-threatening) allergy to eggs, or to any other substance in the vaccine. 2009 H1N1 LAIV should not be given to the following groups:

  • Children younger than 2 and adults 50 years and older
  • Pregnant women
  • Anyone with a weakened immune system
  • Anyone with a long-term health problem such as :

Heart disease kidney or liver disease

Lung disease metabolic disease such as diabetes

Asthma anemia and other blood disorders

  • Children younger than 5 years with asthma or one or more episodes of wheezing during the past year
  • Anyone with certain muscle or nerve disorders (such as cerebral palsy) that can lead to breathing or swallowing problems
  • Anyone in close contact with a person with a severely weakened immune system (requiring care in a protected environment, such as a bone marrow transplant unit)
  • Children or adolescents on long-term aspirin treatment
The preceding groups may receive the inactivated (dead virus) “flu shot” if approved by their physician.
 
If you are currently moderately ill, you may be advised to wait until you are recovered before getting the vaccine.

The Hancock County Health Department will facilitate immunization of all school age children in their respective schools. For questions regarding school immunization clinics, please contact the Hancock County Health department at (317) 477-1125.

Hancock Regional Hospital has no control over the distribution and/or availability of H1N1 vaccine.
