The
Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit (IRU) is dedicated to providing
individuals with rehabilitation geared toward maximizing
independence and returning each individual to a home environment in
the community. Common admission diagnosis include:
• Stroke
• Femur fractures
• Amputation
• Arthritis, osteoarthritis
• Brain injury
• Neurological disorders including Multiple
Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease
and
Guillain-Barre
• Total
Knee
and/or Hip Replacements for individuals who are 85 years of age
and older or receiving bilateral replacements
Other
conditions resulting in significant debilitation, requiring
intensive inpatient rehabilitation, will be evaluated on an
individualized basis.
Length of
stay
The
average length of stay is 12 days; however, length
of stay will depend on the patient’s individualized needs and
ongoing progress.
Physician
and care
During
the patient’s rehabilitation stay, the IRU medical director will
be the primary physician coordinating the patient’s rehabilitation
program.
Visiting
hours
Visiting
hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 1 to 8 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday. Family members are welcome to participate
during therapy sessions which typically occur during
non-visiting hours.
The
team
The
interdisciplinary IRU team is comprised of, but not limited to, a group of caregivers
and other specially trained individuals. These individuals include physicians, nurses,
physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists,
dietitians, psychiatrists, social workers, rehabilitation care
coordinator, and therapeutic recreation specialist.
The patient and family are also key team members.
Weekly
team conference
The
interdisciplinary team meets weekly with each patient and his or her
family to review the interdisciplinary plan and progress toward
discharge home.

managers, or family members.
