Named in honor of Fannie Andis, who donated the
land for Hancock Regional Hospital, the Andis
Women's Connection provides a continuum of quality healthcare that
meets the special needs of women from adolescence through maturity.
The Andis Women's Connection is dedicated to the
memory of Mrs. Fannie Andis, one of the original founders who
proposed the idea for Hancock Memorial Hospital in December 1944.
Mrs. Andis had lost her only child and always felt that if there had
been a hospital in Hancock County, her child might have lived.
In
1951, Hancock Memorial opened its doors on the site donated by Mrs.
Andis. In 2005, Hancock Memorial Hospital was renamed Hancock
Regional Hospital.
The focus on health has skyrocketed in the last
decade, and women's health issues are particularly prevalent. In
response to community need and interest, the board of Trustees of
Hancock Regional Hospital designated women's
health for specific program development.
The following key components are gathered under
the umbrella of the Andis Women's Connection:
Andis Women's Unit...dedicated to providing
superb in-patient care for women.
-
Personalized maternity care, including
specialty care for high-risk mothers.
-
Level II Newborn Nursery.
-
Post-surgical care for gynecological and
other surgical procedures.
Andis Breast Center...committed to
compassion and excellence in breast diagnostics.
Andis Women's Connection...targets areas of
special interest to women in Hancock County.
-
Teen pregnancy
Goal: Decrease teen pregnancy in Hancock County by educating
teens about abstinence, adolescent health, dating and peer
pressure.
-
Breast Health
Goal: Provide women of our community with information to assist
in making informed decisions regarding prevention, diagnosis and
treatment options for breast disease.
-
Domestic Violence
Goal: Raise awareness in our community of the extent of
relationship abuse, and inform victims of the potential dangers
involved and the options available to them.
-
Breastfeeding
Goal: Promote breastfeeding for infants up to one year, based on
the guidelines of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and
provide support for nursing mothers.
-
Screening Options for Uninsured or
Underinsured
-
Breast and Cervical Cancer Program (BCCP)
The Breast and Cervical Cancer Program is sponsored by
the Indiana State Department of Health and is funded by the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. With additional
donations to the Hancock Regional Hospital Foundation, this
program allows women who meet age, income and insurance
guidelines, the opportunity to have a Pap test and Pelvic
exam, and a mammogram screening. By participating in this
program, Hancock Regional Hospital is
able to offer health care maintenance options to women who
might otherwise not have these tests completed due to budget
restrictions.
-
Women Helping Women (WHW)
The Women Helping Women program benefits
women who have little or no health insurance, or who otherwise
couldn't afford a mammogram screening. Through other people's
generous donations to the Hancock Regional Hospital Foundation, mammogram screenings are paid
for when a qualifying woman has one completed. If
