Latex Balloons Not Permitted

Latex balloons are not permissible at Hancock Regional Hospital

Latex allergies have become an increasingly prevalent medical problem in the last several decades, a phenomenon which is in part thought to be due to the increased medical use of latex gloves to prevent the spread of infectious diseases. Although extremely rare, a serious life-threatening reaction, where one’s throat and tongue swell and he or she is unable to breathe, has been caused by latex allergy. Death can result from such a reaction.

For the health and safety of all our patients, visitors, and staff, latex balloons and other products are not permissible at Hancock Regional Hospital. Mylar balloons are latex free and are permitted. Area florists will not deliver latex balloons to Hancock Regional and the internal gift shop at the hospital will not sell any latex products.

Latex sensitive individuals are at risk for this life-threatening reaction and should wear a medical alert bracelet to indicate their allergy.

We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. We appreciate your understanding of this very important issue.
